Top 5 Halloween Activities (To Make This Year Spooky and COVID Safe)

It’s well and truly spooky season, and if you’re seeking a fun but safe way to celebrate Halloween this year, you’ve come to the right place. From Spooky Game Nights to Halloween Bake Offs, we’ve got friends and families sorted for eerie, COVID safe activities.

1) Host a Spooky Games Night

If you’re planning on having a low key get together this Halloween, a spooky themed games night makes for the ultimate night in.

Get each of your guests to come in costume and bring a bottle or platter of something, and make sure your home is adequately decorated to really set the spooky mood.

Swap out the usual board games and card games for some Halloween inspired activities - think apple bobbing, Halloween guess who and candy scavenger hunts.

Working up a thirst? Games night is always paired perfectly with a refreshing drink - see here for some (albeit aesthetically alarming) tasty Halloween cocktails.

2) Get Competitive With a Halloween Bake Off

It’s hardly Halloween without the sugar high - but this year, swap out the candy for some home made baked goods instead.

Bake offs with friends (or family) are always a good idea, and throw some Halloween inspired decorations for your culinary delights into the mix and you’ve got yourself a spooky, stay at home party.

We recommend baking cookies (or muffins) together as a group, but turning things up a notch or two when decorating begins. Here, get creative and competitive; only one will be crowned master of baked goods decorating - so it’s in your best interest to make your culinary works of art look as good as they (hopefully) taste

3) Host a Virtual Halloween Night

Wanting to maintain social distance for this year’s Halloween celebrations? Zoom calls are the answer to your spooky (but safe) prayers.

Invite your nearest and dearest to dress up in costume (it’s not Halloween if you look like yourself, even through your laptop) and dial in to a scary video call night.

For a spooky themed activity, exchange your usual Zoom trivia questions for something a little more on par with the Halloween theme (think quizzing your pals on scary films and the history of Halloween), or dare to experience a virtual Murder Mystery Party - but be warned, it’s not for the faint hearted.

4) Tackle a Halloween Movie Marathon

An oldie but a goodie, Halloween movie nights will undoubtedly go down in history as the most relaxing way to spend spooky season (and rightfully so -  a night in which binging mass produced, substandard Hollywood films and enough candy to last you all year is both socially acceptable and reinforced? Genius.).

Not unlike the rest of the human population, we’re fans of the 1993 family classic Hocus Pocus, but for those who prefer smaller sized content, American Horror Story and Ratched on Netflix provide their fair share of thrills.

5) Pumpkin Carving and Wine (In the Park)

You heard it here first folks - pumpkin carving competitions in the park may just about be the funnest socially distanced Halloween activity out there.

Get your hands on some pumpkins and head down to a public park (or your garden!), making sure to bring plenty of picnic blankets, snacks and a bottle of wine (if you feel so inclined) for good measure.

Feeling a little competitive? Turn the activity into a contest - the winner of the best carved pumpkin gets to choose the Halloween movie for the night (or have the last glass of wine).
