Top 9 Activities for the Foodie and Drinkie Couple

So, if there’s one thing you love more than your partner, it’s food.

We understand - which is why we’ve devised a list of the top 9 Activities for couples whose relationship revolves around all things food.

If you like our list below, check out our blog ‘Top 10 Unusual Date Ideas’.

1- Foodie Date Night

So, it’s your turn to come up with a date night plan of action for you and your partner but you’re all out of ideas? Whether you’re long time partners or just starting to see each other, a Foodie Fun Date Night is sure to do the trick.

Brought to you by the kind folks over at AmazingCo, the experience is designed especially with foodies in mind. Over the course of 3-5 hours, you and your significant other will be making your way through 10 food related activities (think trivia, games, challenges and tastings), either as a team, or for those competitive at heart - against each other.

2- Have a Dinner Party With Friends

While not exactly an intimate date for two, hosting a dinner party with your significant other for your friends makes for a surprisingly fun date night idea.

You’ll be getting plenty of quality time in with your partner before the guest arrive when you two whip up a culinary storm together (depending on your levels of cooking expertise this can either be a hectic or fun experience - but even at worst at least it’s a hectic experience together) and you can still maintain an air of romance with the use of plenty of candles and dim lighting.

Plus, inviting another couple turns the whole night into a unique and cosy double date. Can’t cook to save your life? Check out some super easy recipes here that’ll fool everyone into thinking you know what you’re doing in the kitchen

3- Wine, Cheese & Game Date Night

As the ancient proverb goes, a wine, cheese and game date night is a good date night. No, but seriously -be it Cluedo, Uno or Charades, games nights make for a splendidly eventful evening in, made all the better with delicious food and wine.

We recommend dusting off your best and fanciest grazing board and decorating it with cheeses, antipasto and more biscuits than you think you will ever need.

To top it off, open a bottle (or two, we’re not counting) of your favourite wine, or depending on your mixology skills, have a shot at attempting some at home cocktails (Pina Coladas and poor man’s Sangria are a cinch) if you’re both feeling extra fancy.

There’s nothing better for date night than a wine and cheese board.

4- Mystery Picnic Date

Few things in life compare to the simple pleasure of a picnic. The sun is shining, the food is abundant, and the company is stellar. While a rejuvenating day out in nature (or a city park - far away from the crowds), AmazingCo has upped the ante, so to speak, reimagining the classic picnic with a mysterious twist.

In this Mystery Picnic Date experience, you and your partner will spend the day attempting to solve a number of riddles and clues, leading you to multiple boutique food stores where you’ll be able to pick up delicious food for your picnic basket. Only when you’ve picked up your delicious spread will you be led to your secret picnic location, shrouding the day in mystery.

The Mystery Picnic is perfect for couples who love food nearly as much (or more?) than each other, consisting of small business run, locally sourced produce.

5- Go to the Fanciest Restaurant in Your City (Or DIY At Home)

While undoubtedly expensive, splurging at a fancy restaurant from time to time is worth it. Not only is it a fun treat, but you can bet the food will be delicious. We recommend dressing up super fancy, congregating at yours for a sparkling wine and some pre-dinner nibbles, and then heading out for the evening with your partner.

If lashing out on fine dining isn’t what you’d prefer to spend your money on, go DIY instead. Cook your significant other a three course meal at home (seafood pasta with a white wine sauce is surprisingly simple for those who aim to impress yet whose culinary skills are somewhat… lacking), crack open a bottle of sparkling wine and light multiple candles for peak romance and cosiness.

If you’re seeking to go one step further, contemplate printing off menus for the full fine dining at home experience, and to look the part - get dressed to the nines.

Keep things simple for date night, with a classic meal out.

6- Go On a Mystery Food Walk

We’ve all been there, wandering the streets aimlessly, searching for the perfect restaurant to eat out with our partner. You both want Italian, but after arguing about whether to try the new pizza bar or simply go to your local pasta restaurant, walk past another new pizza place, throwing even more confusion into the equation.

But what if you could go everywhere, we hear you ask? With AmazingCo’s Mystery Food Walk, you can.

The Food Walk allows you and your partner to discover an entire chosen food quarter or cuisine, rather than one restaurant. Throughout the evening, you’ll need to band together to solve a number of clues and riddles (digitally sent to your smartphone), leading you to different restaurants where you’ll be chowing down on delicious samples we’ve picked out for you (there’ll be no food envy here, thank you very much).

7- Champagne Breakfast (Extra Points if in Bed or Bottomless Brunch)

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so may as well make it a full blown event. While bottomless champagne cafe brunches have had somewhat of a renaissance the past couple of years (and for good reason), the same can be done from the comfort of your own home, at a multitude of the comfort and a fraction of the fuss (there’ll be no waiting in queues, or talk of wearing pyjamas as ‘inappropriate at this establishment’ here, thank you very much).

Try treating your partner to a breakfast at home (or cook together) by serving up all your favourite cafe style brunch specials (think avo on toast, eggs benedict and chilli scrambled eggs) and for an air of celebration and fun (it is date night after all), pop open a sparkling wine.

8- Go on a Drink Discovery Walk

AmazingCo’s Drink Discovery Walk likens itself to a huge, adults only scavenger hunt leading you from bar to bar (kind of like a bar crawl, only much better) - so you already know it’s good.

Throughout the evening, you and your partner will need to solve a series of riddles and clues (delivered digitally to your smartphone), leading you to discover the very best that your city’s bar scene has to offer.

Better yet - there’ll be prepaid sample drinks waiting for you at each of these watering holes which you’ll be learning about while you sip, through tasting notes and facts delivered directly to your smartphone.

9- Go to a Cooking Class

While undoubtedly fond of it, your partner may be somewhat… accustomed and familiarised to that one staple home cooked meal you’ve come to master.

Consider joining a cooking class together, where you’ll learn the tricks of the trade from professionals of whatever cuisine you both prefer. The class, while educational, can also serve as date night - you two can learn together and (if you’re competitive) compete against each other for the best looking meal at the end.

Plus, you’ll learn and pick up skills that you can put to good use in your own kitchen for future at home date nights (making that quote about giving a man a fish very true), solidifying you both as the ultimate foodie couple.

Food, glooorious food! We sincerely hope this list has piqued your appetite (pun intended) and given you a unique and delicious date idea.
Whether you’re a long term couple or are on your second date, we wish you the best in your foodie endeavours.
